Lego Ideas Third 2014 Review (#013) Revealed

Lego Ideas 2014 Review

The latest Lego Ideas Review (Third 2014, #013) has been officially revealed. The next Ideas set will be the Marble Maze. This set will feature a fully working marble labyrinth. The kind with two knobs, marbles, and pitfalls all wrapped up in a wooden box (in this case a Lego box). However the final model will be designed, it will be featuring a good amount of technic building, which Lego Ideas hasn’t used too much.

The other proposed sets that didn’t make the cut in this review included the Avengers Helicarrier, The Goonies Inferno Pirate Ship, The Natural History Museum, The Lord of the Rings Minas Tirith, Jurassic Park Gate, a Piano, and the Flying Dutchman. No reasons for the denial were given. Lego did leave us with a little surprise, saying that they were still considering the F7A Hornet from the video game Star Citizen. Check out the full video below.

But, if you are lucky enough you may find a few of these listed for sale around the internet, but be prepared for high prices. The Aquilax Fleet – A Lego Micro Space Project

Tim Goddard's Lego Space Aquilax Fleet

Purple is an extremely unfamiliar color for most Lego builders. In the past Lego has associated purple with Lego Friends or other girl-targeted themes. But, purple is on the rise.  A lot of the Super Heroes sets feature a good amount of purple, and the color is popping up in small amounts everywhere. The popularity of Lego Friends also means that it easy to acquire a lot of purple bricks quickly. Tim Goddard decided to create a whole Lego Space fleet in micro scale using purple. This collection of spaceships is known as the Aquilax Fleet.  Featuring a Destroyer, Frigate, Flagship and a few smaller starfighters. The gold accents and white base color contrast with the purple perfectly. Creating very clean, but almost alien looking starships. By restricting the part selection, and focusing on a micro-build, the designer has forced themselves to get creating with the Lego pieces.

Tim Goddard has also put out a call for other Lego builders to contribute to a Micro-/Nano-Space Fly-In. Where you can “contribute to the rag-tag fleet of space-based Refugees, Imperiums, Federations, Independents, Raiders, Pirates, Aliens, Ancients & More.” Check out http://www.mocslug.com/fly-in2014/ for more details. Contributors will be able to display their collection at the AFOLCON/BRICK 2014.

Lego Ideas First 2014 Review Results: Birds, Big Bang

http://youtu.be/DiX7Q5_TTjo

Lego has finally posted the results of the first 2014 Lego Ideas review. For all the projects that didn’t pass (Lego Apple Store, Back to the Future Train), Lego said nothing. The good news is that one of the best Lego Ideas (Cuusoo) projects has been approved. The Lego Birds will be an official Lego set. These little guys are super cute, and are a great way to introduce the spherical building techniques. to new Lego builders. It is interesting to see Lego go back and forth with licensed sets and original ideas.

Lego also announced another winner for this review. In a surprising announcement Lego revealed that the Big Bang Theory will be an official set. This opens up a whole new theme in Lego Ideas. Current television properties.  This could be the beginning of a tidal wave of projects based on popular culture. The proposed Big Bang Theory project has a whole lot of references to science fiction, and comic books. Lets hope that these details make into the final product.

Not only did Lego announce two winners in the first 2014 review, but they also teased us with two projects that are still pending. The Doctor Who projects are still being considered. Since Lego announced that the license is available, it seems that these have a good chance at approval. The biggest problem is probably figuring out what direction to take the project and who to credit for the idea.

Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu Rebooted for 2014

Lego Ninjago Rebooted Poster

Ninjago is back for 2014. They have been on a bit of a hiatus since the debut of Lego Legends of Chima. Lego has repeatedly said that Ninjago would be coming back, and the new wave looks like it will be focusing on Robotics / Androids. This has easily been the craziest Lego theme in years. Often featuring Ninjas fighting dragons, skeletons, lizards, reptiles, and demons. Now the Masters of Spinjitzu can add Nindroids, the robotic ninja villains to that list. Convenient as it was recently reveled that Zane happens to be a Nindroid. These new sets are keeping Ninjago crazy busy.

Lego Ninjago Kai Fighter 70721

Lego Ninjago Kai Fighter (70721) looks like Kai and General Cryptor will fight it out with a Ninja (Jet) Fighter.

Lego Ninjago OverBorg Attack 70722

Lego Ninjago OverBorg Attack (70722) will feature Lloyd and OverBorg fighting with motorcycles.

Lego Ninjago Tunder Raider 70723

Lego Ninjago Thunder Raider (70723) will feature Cole and Jay taking on a Nindroid.  Cole’s Earth Mech looks pretty nifty.

There are also rumors of an additional four sets coming in 2014. Nindroid Mechanical Dragon (70725), Air Breaks (70720), NinjaCopter (70724), and Destroyers (70726).  It will be interesting to see how weird these new sets will be.

Funcom's Lego Minifigures Online MMO video game

It looks like another Lego video game is on its way. This time it is an MMO style game where you are collecting the various minifigure characters and their powers. It looks like an interesting way to combine the collectable minifigures into their own video game. Lets hope that Funcom and Lego can keep this one online longer then the short lived Lego Universe.
