Lego Angry Birds (and Pigs?) On The Way

Lego Angry Birds Announcement

Angry Birds and Lego are teaming up in what might be the biggest surprise of the year. It is not very often that an announcement like this gets made. The first planned releases will hit shelves in Spring 2016, almost a year away. There are not even any specific details or photos yet. It seems like the Lego Angry Birds theme is about 2 years too late. But, with a feature film coming in 2016, a new wave of interest in these birds might be sparked. Check out the announcement below:

“LAS VEGAS, Nevada– 8th June 2015– Rovio, makers of Angry Birds, the most downloaded mobile game ever, today announced a partnership with The LEGO Group to develop a line of construction toys. LEGO® Angry Birds will be available in spring 2016 to coincide with the release of The Angry Birds Movie, a full-length feature film based on the popular gaming franchise.

“The LEGO brand has an unparalleled ability to connect with people through products that spark creativity and imagination. We’re really excited to build experiences together with this amazing best-in-class partner,” said Pekka Rantala, Chief Executive Officer of Rovio.

“We are excited to bring Angry Birds to life in LEGO form, given the popularity of the game and its characters with fans of all ages, which will only be amplified by the forthcoming film,” said Jill Wilfert, Vice President, licensing & entertainment at The LEGO Group. “We seek partnership with globally relevant properties that offer a unique and rewarding play experience to our fans, and our designers are having fun developing building sets that leverage the engaging play and deconstruction found in the Angry Birds game.”

Lego Ideas First 2014 Review Results: Birds, Big Bang

http://youtu.be/DiX7Q5_TTjo

Lego has finally posted the results of the first 2014 Lego Ideas review. For all the projects that didn’t pass (Lego Apple Store, Back to the Future Train), Lego said nothing. The good news is that one of the best Lego Ideas (Cuusoo) projects has been approved. The Lego Birds will be an official Lego set. These little guys are super cute, and are a great way to introduce the spherical building techniques. to new Lego builders. It is interesting to see Lego go back and forth with licensed sets and original ideas.

Lego also announced another winner for this review. In a surprising announcement Lego revealed that the Big Bang Theory will be an official set. This opens up a whole new theme in Lego Ideas. Current television properties.  This could be the beginning of a tidal wave of projects based on popular culture. The proposed Big Bang Theory project has a whole lot of references to science fiction, and comic books. Lets hope that these details make into the final product.

Not only did Lego announce two winners in the first 2014 review, but they also teased us with two projects that are still pending. The Doctor Who projects are still being considered. Since Lego announced that the license is available, it seems that these have a good chance at approval. The biggest problem is probably figuring out what direction to take the project and who to credit for the idea.

Lego Ghostbusters (21108) CUUSOO set officially revealed!

Lego Ghostbusters 21108 Minifigures

“I tried to think of the most harmless thing. Something I loved from my childhood. Something that could never ever possibly destroy us.” — Dr. Ray Stantz

It seems that the upcoming Lego Ghostbusters (21108) CUUSOO set will be upon us sooner then expected. At the recent Toy Fair (2014), Lego officially revealed details and photos for the new set. The Lego Ghostbusters (21108) will be available for purchase in June 2014 with a retail price of $49.99. The set will include a very slick looking Ecto-1, and the Ghostbusters themselves: Dr. Peter Venkman, Dr. Raymond “Ray” Stantz, Dr. Egon Spengler, and Winston Zeddemore. The original design was done by Brent Waller, and most of his ideas have been persevered here (except for the Firehouse, which is understandably missing).

Not only do the Minifigures have an uncanny resemblance to the Ghostbusters, but the Ecto-1 is almost perfect. It features some SNOT building techniques that really help to preserve the iconic look. A few noticable details are the beautiful Lego blue hoses, and the whip accessory in black.

Lego Ghostbusters 21108 Ecto-1

“This fun and iconic vehicle from the blockbusting ‘80s movie is fully loaded with all the paranormal detection equipment needed to track down those ghastly ghosts. It also features cool Ghostbusters logo decoration, removable roof, tracking computer and seats for 3 minifigures.”

Lego CUUSOO Fall 2013 Review: Ghostbusters 30th Anniversary!

Ghostbusters 30th Anniversary Cuusoo Project: Group

Lego just announced the results for the next CUUSOO set. The Lego Review board has approved a Ghostbusters 30th Anniversary set. The other proposals that were looked at included the Female Minifigures set, Poptropica, FTL Spaceships, the Road to Oz, ATLAS mini model, Ghostbusters, and Ghostbusters 30th Anniversary. Lego made a good choice and chose the better of the two Ghostbusters sets. Too bad it sounds like they will not be making the handsome headquarters building. Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, Egon Spengler and Winston Zeddemore are back in action.

Ghostbusters Cuusoo Project: Ecto-1

Lego specifically mentions the Minifigures and the Ecto-1 for this upcoming set. With a tentative release date of 2014, but no exact month. This is great complimentary set to the recent Back to the Future set. Read more about the Ghostbuster here: http://legogenre.com/lego-ghostbusters-cuusoo-project/
