Know Your Enemy… They Have A Plan! – Lego Meme

Lego They Have A Plan

One of the most painful feelings to a human is stepping on an unexpected Lego brick. Sharper than a thousand needles, more painful than a stubbed toe. It is the worst. This Lego MOC called, “They have a plan!” is the creation of Didier Burtin. The blue lego general, is giving his soldiers the command to inflict pain on the incoming foot. The foot/map is the star of this build. Achieving good curves that accurately portray a human foot is not easy, especially in lego. Note, that the whole build is a recreation to the infamous lego meme (below), called “Know your enemy.” An art print created by Lim Heng Swee of ilovedoodle. Good stuff.

The Iconic Brick Calendar Reviewed (40172)

Lego Brick Calendar 40172

Lego has a new Calendar available, and it is way different then their older one. Its release date is January 17th, and comes in at $19.99, £15.99, €19.99. With 278 brightly colored pieces this will stand out wherever you put it. Huw, over at Brickset, has written up a full review of this new set. They note that this is a sturdy build. With superfluous pieces being used to help align the square shapes. It is an interesting review, that notes that the Brick Calendar is probably only good in very particular cases.

The Aquilax Fleet – A Lego Micro Space Project

Tim Goddard's Lego Space Aquilax Fleet

Purple is an extremely unfamiliar color for most Lego builders. In the past Lego has associated purple with Lego Friends or other girl-targeted themes. But, purple is on the rise.  A lot of the Super Heroes sets feature a good amount of purple, and the color is popping up in small amounts everywhere. The popularity of Lego Friends also means that it easy to acquire a lot of purple bricks quickly. Tim Goddard decided to create a whole Lego Space fleet in micro scale using purple. This collection of spaceships is known as the Aquilax Fleet.  Featuring a Destroyer, Frigate, Flagship and a few smaller starfighters. The gold accents and white base color contrast with the purple perfectly. Creating very clean, but almost alien looking starships. By restricting the part selection, and focusing on a micro-build, the designer has forced themselves to get creating with the Lego pieces.

Tim Goddard has also put out a call for other Lego builders to contribute to a Micro-/Nano-Space Fly-In. Where you can “contribute to the rag-tag fleet of space-based Refugees, Imperiums, Federations, Independents, Raiders, Pirates, Aliens, Ancients & More.” Check out http://www.mocslug.com/fly-in2014/ for more details. Contributors will be able to display their collection at the AFOLCON/BRICK 2014.

Rock Golem, A Lego MOC That Grows On You

m_o_n_k_e_y’s Lego Rock Golem

This Rock Golem makes a great Lego MOC, full of personality and character. This Golem looks like it would be at home in a Hayao Miyazaki film, or in the world of the Neverending Story. The simple design for the face is great and breaks up the more detailed body. It is also interesting to see blue colors used in the rock body, something you don’t see everyday.

“Getting back to nature. Thought it would be fun doing some greenery. I’ve been inspired by some great nature/castle builds lately and thought how could I create something that still links back to the figures I’ve been building. (Bricks inspired by Derfel Cadam)”

The Last of Us Lego Video Game by Brian Anderson and Dustin Bozovich

The Last Of Us Lego Video Game

Lego and The Last of Us are not normally associated with each other. One is a family friendly and timeless creative toy, and the other is a critically acclaimed zombie video game. But, here we are with a fully realized video combining the two. Brian Anderson and Dustin Bozovich put together this video showcasing The Last of Us as it would be if it was a Lego video game. The three minute video is extremely well made and pretty funny too. The fake achievement earned is hilarious, and I can honestly say that I didn’t expect that surprise ending.

“It’s the Last of Us… but, you know, for kids!”
