A Lego Fell Beast Is Hunting Hobbits

In The Lord of the Rings, the Nazgul almost found the One Ring a few times in their search. In the Two Towers, one of the most scary moments is when Frodo, Sam, and Gollum are hiding in the ruins of Osgiliath. The Witch King almost uncovers the Hobbits, but Frodo perseveres and they remain hidden. This scene has been recreated by Aaron Newman in this Lego MOC called “Wraiths With Wings!” The build features two main parts. The ruined tower base, and the massive brick-built Fell Beast that can perch on top. The dragon like beast is fully posable, and even features folding brick built wings. The full range of movement in the wings and in the body means that the beast has to be designed very carefully. There needs to be enough support to hold up all the weight, and all that weight needs to be perfectly balanced on two feet (and sometimes a tail). For some added support when perched atop the tower, there are a few technic pins holding it on. According to the designer this ended up being the hardest part of this build. One of the best details is the work done in the head and mouth of the Lego Fell Beast. The bright red tongue and sickeningly pink mouth contrast with the muted colors of the dragon. The end result looks terrifyingly great, it almost looks like it could be an official set. The final model 1,251 pieces, which is a bit less than expected.

Filming King Kong vs. Godzilla

King Kong vs. Godzilla is one of those classic film match ups. Everyone imagines how they think the fight would go down. In the film King Kong vs. Godzilla, from 1962 the two monsters fight it out on top of Mount Fuji, with Kong eventually emerging as the winner. An interesting story, but a lot of fans wanted to see them fight in a big city. This Lego MOC called “Filming a Giant Monster Movie” is created by Luis Peña. He imagines a big city battle between the giants in a film studio. The lighting trusses are a great use of the large Lego pieces. The black boxes work well as a frame, giving the scene the appearance of a set without adding too much detailing. The Lego architecture style buildings are a perfect use here, but the best detail might be all of the mini cars and vehicles. There is even a tiny fire engine doing its best at damage control. Maybe this time Kong will let Godzilla win?

The Lego Ninjago Movie Video Game Is Free!

Lego has announced that for the next few days the Lego Ninjago Movie Video Game will be free. You can go download the game now on PC, PS4, and Xbox. The game is based on the recent film and released in 2017. As the player you join Cole, Jay, Kai, Lloyd, Master Wu, Nya, and Zane as they defend the land from Lord Garmadon. The adventure takes about 10 hours, maybe a bit more if you collect every brick. The video game was released to some mixed reviews, so now is the perfect time to see if it clicks with you. Too bad that for some reason Lego and Nintendo seem to have skipped the free promotion on the Switch. Check out the links below, you can’t argue with free.

Lego Stitch, Now With More Arms!

Stitch is the adorable alien, who just happens to extremely dangerous. This Lego Stitch created by Legohaulic has been updated to reflect both personalities. Compared to the previous build (check it out here) the newer model has been considerably redesigned. The “earth dog” version now has a bigger head, more SNOT building techniques, better fur, and bigger ears. The biggest change is that the model now supports the full “alien” version. With two extra arms, a bunch of extra antennae, and new pupils for the eyes. Lego Stitch stands at seven inches tall, and has thirteen different points of articulation. This new build is up on Lego Ideas (the previous model achieved over 10,000 votes!) so go vote for it if you want to see an official release!

Why So Serious? — A Lego Joker Model

Every film version of Batman’s greatest enemy, the Joker, has been memorable. But none are as memorable as Heath Ledger’s Joker from The Dark Knight film. With smeared on lipstick, uneven white makeup, and oily green hair. This Lego MOC tries to recreate that look. “Why So Serious?” is a Lego bust of the Joker created by timofey_tkachev. This build uses a lot of olive green Lego leaves to recreate the hair, and it works well. A few dark green leaves help to give the hair texture and definition. The smile is built out of a variety of Lego horns, and a red crowbar, it is a fine detail that gives the model personality. The purple suit is recreated just enough to give an impression of more, while still putting focus on the face. A SNOT style Joker playing card is also included.

This Lego Joker model has a full set of instructions available. The finished bust uses 1,093 pieces, and takes 413 pages to build. The playing card is a separate build, that also has a set of instructions. With 102 pieces and 23 pages. Check below for more information.

The New Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Will Arrive In October!

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has an official release date. It will arrive on October 20th, 2020 (10-20-2020 or 20-10-2020 depending on preferred style). The newest video game in the series will feature storylines from all nine films. With five levels per movie, which works out to 45 levels in game. Developed by Traveller’s Tales, the new game will have around 500 playable characters. Admiral Ackbar, Yaddle, and Zorii Bliss are just a few of those characters. The game will be available on all the current systems, Windows PC, Playstation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

A Wild Lego Detective Pikachu Has Appeared

The recent Pokémon film Detective Pikachu was way better than it should have been. A happy surprise, which seems to have started a whole new trend in video game movies. This life-sized Lego MOC of Detective Pikachu is created by alanboar. The build is actually an update to their previous Lego Pikachu. It has been modified by adding a tan detectives hat, and a magnifying glass. This build uses more than 3,000 Lego pieces, and is not completely solid. By making parts of it hollow it saves on the piece count. Having a hollow head might explain why he has amnesia. In the end, can Pikachu find his missing partner?

Wicket The Ewok Just Wants A Hug

This is Wicket the Ewok as created by Bruce Lowell. A cute little teddy bear alien from Endor. He stars in such Star Wars movies as Return of the Jedi, the Rise of Skywalker, the Ewok Adventure, Ewoks: The Battle for Endor, and in Ewoks the animated show. Even though they helped destroy the Death Star with spears and traps, they are not very popular in certain crowds. But this Lego MOC will convince you that Wicket just wants a hug. This brick built Ewok is built using SNOT techniques in a very cartoon style. He features a spear, and his red poncho. He looks ready for a giant Ewok Celebration with their new golden god: C3PO.

Great Scott! A Lego Back To The Future Tensegrity Build

Emmet Brown would approve of combining Lego and Tensegrity Sculptures. The concept of a system of tension that can support itself, while not actually interacting with itself is a neat idea. They often create optical illusions where heavy things can appear to be floating. This Lego Delorean is perfectly balanced and is ultimately being help up by just three strings. There have been some basic versions of this trick, but lately they have been more and more complicated/themed. This Lego Back To The Future Tensegrity build is the creation of hachiroku24. The theming is great. The base depicts part of a road, and the unpaved shoulder on the side. With Marty on a brick built hoverboard. He is connected to one of the stings, which is a clever way to make him look like he is really hovering. In the end this is a perfect way to display a Lego Back to the Future 2 themed Delorean.

Prologue: Concerning Hobbits, A Lego LOTR Series

The Lord of the Rings, by J.R.R. Tolkien opens up with a prologue titled “Concerning Hobbits.” A humorous chapter about what a Hobbit is, their history, and their love of smoking pipe-weed. Micah Schmidt has started an ambitious Lego project of recreating scenes from each chapter from the trilogy. No better place to start than the beginning. This build features Bilbo writing in the Red Book of Westmarch the prologue from The Lord of the Rings. The Lego hobbit hole looks fantastic. The walls are gently curved, a cozy round window, and half of a wooden archway set the scene. The Lego furnishing are great; the messiness and general disarray works well. Check out the sideways built flooring with the square mosaic cutout in the center. A great way to create a detailed rug without adding extra depth. Now if only Bilbo can only find some time to finish planning his birthday party.
